Terrorism

We will issue public warnings or advice if it ever becomes necessary to protect the public from a specific and credible terrorist threat. We continue to maintain a state of heightened readiness in response to the threat of terrorism.

Terrorism

The Home Office, the Security Service (MI5), the Police and other agencies are constantly engaged in keeping the UK safe from the threat of terrorism.

The investigation into the terrorist bomb attacks in London on 7 July, which claimed 56 lives and injured several hundred, is on-going, but the nature of the incidents indicates that they are consistent with international terrorism.

The incidents on 21 July, though not resulting in any significant casualties, have underlined the need for maintaining a state of heightened awareness in response to the threat.

Members of the public should always remain alert to the danger of terrorism and report any suspicious activity to the police.

If your information does not relate to an imminent threat, you can also contact the Security Service.

Further Information

The Security Service is responsible for protecting the UK against threats to national security. The MI5 website provides information on the current major threats to UK security and practical advice to help businesses and organisations to protect against them.

For information on the threats abroad, travellers should consult the Foreign & Commonwealth Office website for country-specific advice.
